Except from The Journey of Massie Harbison

...the Indians who had Massie Harbison and her boys with them came to the banks that descend towards the Allegheny where Kiskiminetas Junction now stands. The bank was very steep and they had trouble in descending it on horseback. Her horse descended without falling, but the one on which the Indian rode who had her little boy fell and rolled over repeatedly, causing her boy to fall back over the horse. He was picked up by one of the Indians. The party came to the banks of the river where the Indians had secured some bark canoes under the rocks opposite to the island that lies between the Kiskiminetas River and Buffalo Creek. They attempted to make the horses swim the river, but after trying sometime, they left the horses behind and took their prisoners in one of the canoes to a point of the island, where they left the canoes. Here Massie beheld another scene, for as soon as they landed, her little boy who was still mourning and lamenting about his little brother, and who complained he was injured by the fall in descending the bank, was murdered. One of the Indians ordered her along, probably so she should not see the deed about to be committed. The other then took his tomahawk and killed and scalped him, When she beheld this second scene of inhuman butchery she fell the ground senseless, with her infant in her arms.
